Managing DNS settings

DNS (Domain Name System) settings are essential for making your website accessible on the internet. They control how your domain name (like `yourwebsite.com`) points to your Ycode project, ensuring visitors reach your site quickly and securely.

What Are DNS Settings?

DNS is like the address book of the internet. When someone types your domain into a browser, DNS translates that name into the numerical IP address of your website’s server. Managing DNS settings means changing certain records (like A, CNAME, and TXT records) so your domain connects correctly to your Ycode site.

How to Manage DNS Settings for Your Ycode Project

1. Add Your Domain in Ycode

  • Open your Ycode project dashboard.

  • Go to Settings and select Domains.

  • Click Add domain and enter your domain name (e.g., `myweb.com`). Leave out `http://`, `https://`, or `www`.

2. Access DNS Information

After adding your domain, click Manage DNS in Ycode. This will display the DNS records you need to set up with your registrar (the company where you bought your domain).

3. Update DNS Records at Your Registrar

  • Log in to your domain registrar’s dashboard (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).

  • Find the DNS or Domain Management section. You can search for “[Registrar name] + DNS settings” for registrar-specific guides.

  • Add or update the DNS records provided by Ycode. Typically, you’ll need to set:

  • A Record: Points your domain to Ycode’s server IP address.

  • CNAME Record: Used for subdomains (like `www.yourwebsite.com`), pointing them to your main domain or a Ycode-specific address.

  • Save your changes. DNS propagation may take several minutes to several hours to complete.

4. Verify and Publish

  • Once DNS records are set, return to Ycode and publish your project.

  • Ycode will automatically detect when your DNS is configured correctly and activate your custom domain.

Tips for Managing DNS

  • Always double-check that you’re editing the correct domain, especially if you own multiple domains.

  • DNS changes can take time to propagate globally—be patient if your site doesn’t appear immediately.

  • Ycode automatically provides SSL certificates for all connected domains, so your site is always secure (HTTPS).

  • For registrar-specific help, refer to your registrar’s support or help center.
