Troubleshooting

Why isn’t Safari showing my favicon?

If your favicon isn’t appearing in Safari, don’t worry—this is a common issue with a few simple solutions. Here’s how to fix it.

Safari and SVG favicons

Safari doesn’t support SVG files as favicons. If your favicon is in SVG format, replace it with a PNG or JPG file. Make sure the new file is correctly uploaded and your website is republished. Check out this page for more details on favicon compatibility across browsers.

Clearing cache to fix display issues

Even after updating your favicon, Safari might not show it correctly due to cached data. Try these quick fixes:

  1. Clear your browser cache or test your site in incognito mode.

  2. If the problem persists, clear Safari’s favicon cache manually:

    • Close Safari completely.

    • Open Finder and navigate to the Go > Go to Folder option in the menu bar.

    • Enter this path: ~/Library/Safari/Favicon Cache/ and click Go.

    • Select all files in the folder (Command + A) and move them to the Trash.

    • Empty your Trash to delete these files.

    • Reopen Safari.

What happens next?

When you revisit websites, Safari will rebuild its favicon cache. Your favicon, along with others that weren’t displaying correctly, should now appear as expected.

If the issue still isn’t resolved, double-check your favicon file format and upload process to ensure everything is set up correctly.
