Enabling maintenance mode

Maintenance mode is a valuable feature in Ycode that allows you to temporarily take your website offline for updates, testing, or fixes while displaying a friendly message to visitors. This ensures a professional experience for users while preventing access to incomplete or unstable content.

What Does Maintenance Mode Do?

  • Displays a customizable maintenance message or page instead of your site’s usual content.

  • Prevents new users from accessing the live website during maintenance.

  • Allows administrators to continue working or testing behind the scenes.

  • Helps avoid negative user experiences during updates or migrations.

How to Enable Maintenance Mode

  1. Access Your Project Settings:
Navigate to your project dashboard and locate general or publishing settings.

  2. Activate Maintenance Mode:
Toggle or select the option to turn on maintenance mode for your site.
(Ycode will provide the option to customize the message or design shown to visitors.)

  3. Configure Access:
Some setups allow bypassing maintenance mode with a password or IP-based whitelist for admin or team access.

  4. Save and Publish:
Save your settings and publish the site with maintenance mode enabled. Visitors will see the maintenance page until you disable the mode.

When to Use Maintenance Mode

  • During major content updates or redesigns.

  • While fixing critical bugs or errors.

  • Prior to or during site migrations and domain changes.

  • Before scheduled launches or releases.

Additional Maintenance Mode Management Tips

  • Use a staging environment to test changes safely; learn about it in Setting Up Staging Environments.

  • Prepare your domain and SSL certificates as described in Domain and Staging and Do I Need to Set Up SSL for My Custom Domain.

  • When ready to go live, publish your updated site using Publishing Your Website.

  • If needed, you can temporarily hide your site by Unpublishing a Site.

  • Preserve your SEO performance with How to Set Up Redirects to Maintain SEO Ranking.

  • Monitor visitor impact and site metrics via Viewing Site Analytics.
